Thesis title: Beyond Schooling: Non-formal and Informal Political Participation through Community Organisations as Educational Experiences
Cheryl (they/ them) was previously trained as a social worker and later on worked in various education jobs spanning from museums, primary schools, and special education. Drawing from their past training in social work, then education studies, and social anthropology, Cheryl blends their past training/ education, experiences and interests working with children and young people to develop their specialisation in non-formal education through community spaces. They are especially interested in how non-formal community spaces hold substantive educational potential that might also apply creative, emotionally responsive, and experiential forms of learning. Cheryl is also interested in how community spaces could be used as a space for mutual understanding and care towards new frameworks of social justice through inter alia.
Cheryl’s doctoral research is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council.
